PUTRAJAYA, 28TH FEBRUARY 2019 - Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES) has once again proven its credibility as a national research centre as it succesfully developed Malaysian Sports Culture Index 2018 that act as a mechanism to measure the sports culture in Malaysia. This index is the first of its kind on both national and international level.

Malaysian Sports Culture Index was launched by YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abul Rahman, Minister of Youth and Sports at Podium Hall, KBS Tower on 28th February 2019. During the launch, the minister said in order to achieve the status of sporting nation, we cannot just rely on high performance sport, but most importantly is to develop sports culture towards a holistic society well-being.

Besides that, on a separate session, Dr. Zainah Shariff, IYRES Chief Executive Officer shared the results from the index that showed the overall score recorded for 2018 was 53.1, that has potrayed the level of Malaysian sports culture at moderate level using 5 domains and 8 indicators. The result from this index are hoped to assist related stakeholders in intensifying the sports-civilizing programs towards sporting nation.

The event was also attended by Economic Planning Unit (EPU), the strategic partner in producing Malaysian Sports Culture Index 2018, expert panels from public universities, sports association, higher learning institution, school students and media.
